A trigger point is an area of increased muscle soreness or sensitivity. Trigger points frequently cause radiation of pain into other nearby areas. Sometimes, a tight muscle band can be felt at the area of maximal tenderness. A trigger point injection is an injection of local anesthetic and steroid into the area of maximal tenderness. Injections are typically repeated until sufficient relief is obtained.
