Deondra P. Asike, M.D.

Board Certified and Fellowship Trained Pain Medicine Doctor Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Deondra AsikeDr. Asike began her medical career in the United States Air Force. She is board certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. She is also a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Maryland. Dr. Asike is trained in both interventional and multidisciplinary techniques for the management of chronic pain. She is dedicated to providing a comprehensive and compassionate approach to pain management. Dr. Asike offers a full range of non-surgical pain management therapies and treats a variety of chronic painful conditions with a particular interest in myofascial pain.

Dr. Asike completed her undergraduate education at the University of Arizona where she received a Bachelor of Science in Physiological Sciences. She earned her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She completed her medical internship at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. She completed her residency training in Anesthesiology at the San Antonio Military Medical Center. The University of Maryland Pain Medicine Fellowship Program brought her to Baltimore. She is a graduate of the Helm’s Medical Institute Acupuncture Course for Physicians.

While on active duty she served as a trauma anesthesiologist at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. She also provided chronic pain management at the Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center, Fort Meade, Maryland where she started an acupuncture clinic for pain management. Her military experience included a tour of duty at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. During this time she participated in a mentorship program for Afghan physicians, teaching acute and chronic pain management strategies. She has participated in research at the Institute of Surgical Research, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. In 2010 at the American Burn Association national meeting, she presented her research on virtual reality pain control during wound debridement of combat-related burn injuries.

Dr. Asike is a member of the Spine Intervention Society, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, American Society of Anesthesiologists, and American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. She holds faculty appointments in the Department of Anesthesiology at both Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland. Additionally, she holds clinical privileges at St. Joseph Medical Center, Ruxton Surgi Center, and the Surgical Center of Bel Air.
Dr. Asike lives in Baltimore with her family. In her spare time she enjoys travel, literature, and photography.
